Blogging with Students
A blog or weblog is a particular type of website that presents articles in reverse chronological order. Blogging with students can be a great way to integrate the general capabilities into the curriculum. Teachers use blogs in many different ways and for different purposes. There are some great websites by other teachers that provide excellent resources to support teachers in using blogs with students.
WeBsites (using Weebly)
Weebly is a website creation platform that is very simple and easy to use. Teachers can create websites to share information, links, files and resources with students in an easy to access format. With an education account, teachers can set up student accounts so students can create their own websites for electronic portfolios or specific projects. PowerPoint Mix
PowerPoint Mix is a free add-in for PowerPoint that allows users to create screencasts, quizzes and other features. It could be used by teachers to create "flipped" lessons or by students to showcase their understanding of a topic.
Today's Meet
Todays Meet is similar to Twitter or Edmodo, as it gets students chatting, using a 140-character limit and an easy-to-use interface. Todays Meet is a backchannel, which helps teachers conduct online discussions, while channeling the results onto one web page or an Interactive White Board. Students can get to Todays Meet with the click of a mouse, if the teacher provides a link on a classroom blog or classroom web site. Once there, students login to Todays Meet simply by typing their name and clicking Join. No accounts or passwords are needed for teachers or students to use Todays Meet. Genius Hour
Genius hour is a movement that allows students to explore their own passions and encourages creativity in the classroom. It provides students a choice in what they learn during a set period of time during school.
