Welcome

The teachers for Year 4 2015 are Mrs Jane Batham (4B) and Mr David Cudicio (4M). We are very keen for you to be involved in your child's learning journey this year. The information on this page should help you to understand some of our basic routines and our goals for the year, but if you have any questions, please ask us.

Communication
Effective home-school communication supports your child’s learning.
e-Mail
Our preferred means of communication is via email, but we can also meet with you in person by appointment. If you would like to meet with us, it is useful to know the nature of the conversation so that we can allow sufficient time and have necessary information available.
Often, the times that we are able to read and respond to emails will be before and after school as we are busy teaching during the school day. If a message is urgent, please phone the office.
Our email addresses are
Jane Batham: [email protected]
David Cudicio: [email protected]
Please email your class teacher so that your email address can be included in any class communication.
School Newsletter
Our school newsletter is a vital form of communication between home and school, serving to strengthen our partnership in the education of your child. You can register through the office to be added to our newsletter list or download here.
Class Blogs
One of the benefits of our exciting 1:1 laptop initiative is the opportunity to encourage our students to write for real audiences. Writing for an audience is much more motivating than writing for the teacher. Class blogs also provide an opportunity to teach students about appropriate online behaviour in a controlled and structured environment. We would encourage you to become involved in our class learning and to encourage our developing writing skills by following and commenting on our class blogs.

Parental Involvement
We would encourage you to take an active and interested role in your child's education. There are many ways that you can be involved this year.
In Class Helpers
In class help is always appreciated. If you are able to assist with regular Literacy Groups, for example, listening to students reading, please let the class teacher know. From time to time, parental assistance might be invited for a special task such as in Science or Technology. Any person who assists at school is required to have completed the Volunteer Code of Conduct form. Grandparents and other non-parent volunteers should possess a Blue Card Positive Notice for Working with Children. For more information, contact the school office.
Class Convener
The Class Convener is an important role that supports the classroom teacher and school community. Each class requires at least one person to volunteer for this role.
The class convener for 4M for 2015 is Pip Mallory, her email is [email protected]. She would appreciate it if all parents could get in contact with her to forward on their contact details.
Team 100WC
We would love for your children to have the opportunity to be involved in the 100 Word Challenge. The 100WC is a global project with hundreds of other students around the world to motivate them to improve their writing by giving them an audience and a purpose for their weekly writing homework. In order to be involved in this exiting project we require volunteers to join Team 100WC. It is expected that this would take approximately 1 hour per week for those who are involved, but since you are not limited to "school hours", this is a great way for working parents to make a real difference in the education of their own child, other children in our class, and children around the world. To find out more about what is involved, please visit the 100WC website.
Excursions
A number of excursion opportunities are being considered to enhance the learning opportunities for the students in Year 4. Details about excursions and excursion helpers will be sent out prior to each excursion. Please consider assisting us by accompanying us on these excursions if possible.
